Introduction
The Film Studies degree is a vibrant, cross-disciplinary programme that focuses on historical, critical and theoretical approaches to the study of film, including television and new media.
Through a close analysis of certain national and international examples, and with a specialist emphasis on the history of film, third world/postcolonial cinema and particular themes (including gender, horror, fantasy and science fiction), the degree examines the historical, political, artistic and cultural aspects that go into cinema production. A strong technical and practical element of the degree complements the theoretical component, with classes on topics such as video production, acting and screenwriting, and documentary film production. Thus the degree provides an interdisciplinary and multimedia approach, imparting a theoretical knowledge with strong elements of practical training. Its elective courses allow students to develop a global awareness of film and related media within the framework of the liberal arts tradition.
A minor in Media Production may add depth to your major of choice.
