Introduction
As understandings of gender roles, gender identity, and sexuality continue to change in our society, you will need to understand and reflect on issues related to gender and sexuality in new ways. The major or minor in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies is an interdisciplinary program that draws on a rich offering of courses across the CAS curriculum. Our program offers you the opportunity to broaden your knowledge of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies through diverse academic fields:

Our Student Internships provide you with an opportunity to apply your understanding of Women, Gender, and Sexuality issues to activist work on campus and in the surrounding communities.
Degree Program
The Major
Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program is an interdisciplinary program offering courses carrying the WGS designation and cross-listed courses from many departments.
The Minor
The minor consists of 24 credits. Students are required to take a 100-level WGS course as a core interdisciplinary course. Students may shape the minor to enhance their major program and can do so in consultation with the director or other members of the Faculty Advisory Committee.
Internships
The Internships offered by Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies are both exploratory (WGS 180, 280) and specialized (WGS 380, 480). They offer you the opportunity to engage in various employment and community service projects for credit. Internships can also be student-initiated, but these must be negotiated with the director, Dr. Jennifer Nelson. *Written Permission Required for Participation in WGS Internships.
The following internships are available each fall and spring semester:
- WGS 180.01 San Bernardino Sexual Assault Services (2-4 credits) -- This internship trains you to volunteer as a Crisis Intervention Counselor.
- WGS 180.02 Battered Women's Shelter (2–4 credits)--Train to become a volunteer for Options House, which provides shelter and assistance to battered women and their children.
- WGS 180.03 Gender Justice Center (Formally the Women's Center) (2–4 credits)--Specific focus of projects and activities negotiated with the Director of WGS in collaboration with the Office of Campus Diversity and Inclusion staff.
- WGS 180.04 Pride Center (2-4 credits) --Specific focus of projects and activities negotiated with the Director of WGS in collaboration with the Office of Campus Diversity and Inclusion staff.
- WGS 180.05 Planned Parenthood Internship (2-4 credits) --You will assist the Community Affairs staff of PPOSBC in the areas of community outreach, programs, special events, and donor development as they relate to family planning and reproductive choice. Build, educate, and mobilize the pro-choice majority in Orange and San Bernardino counties.
- WGS 180.06 Open Door Human Trafficking (2-4 credits)--Specific focus determined collaboratively with the Open Door staff and the Director of WGS, Dr. Jennifer Nelson.
What Can you do with a degree in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies?
As the roles of women and men continue to change in our pluralistic society, the ability to understand and reflect on these changes is increasingly important. The knowledge and experience offered by women's and gender studies courses and departmental courses that concentrate on women's and gender issues become valuable tools in a wide variety of fields.
The major in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies is an interdisciplinary program that draws on a rich offering of courses across the College curriculum. It is possible to major or minor in women's and gender studies. The minor is excellent in combination with many majors, and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies courses aid students in preparing for careers in law, social work, counseling, medicine, education, business, and government as well as graduate study in many disciplines

General Education Requirements
General Education is a broad description of the curriculum that embodies our commitment to a liberal arts education at the University of Redlands. Our general education conveys the range of fields of study, ways of thinking, and practices of scholarship and creativity that enable students to graduate as critical thinkers capable of innovatively and collaboratively adapting to challenges that come their way in the future.
Our general education is comprised of a Liberal Arts Inquiry (LAI) or Liberal Arts Foundation (LAF) curriculum.
- Entering first-year students and transfer students arriving with fewer than 32 credits in Fall 2018 will follow the LAI curriculum.
- All transfer and returning students with 32 credits or more (i.e., sophomores, juniors, and seniors) in Fall 2018 will follow the LAF curriculum.

- WGS students weigh relationships of power related to race, class, gender, ethnicity, and sexuality in an interdisciplinary context.
- Graduating WGS students examine key women’s, gender, and sexuality studies concepts in some form of oral presentation or performance.
- Graduating WGS majors design and complete a research project that analyzes a specific women’s, gender, and sexuality studies topic.
