This program blends technical engineering education with a core set of business and management courses. It aims to provide students with skills and knowledge to manage engineering activities and engineering organizations, leading them towards effective decision-making. It is designed to provide knowledge and develop skills necessary to manage organizations and engineering activities in the areas of planning, organizing, controlling, communicating, coordinating activities of people and systems, leading and motivating people, and effective decision-making. Graduates of this program may pursue a career in decisionmaking, business planning, human resources management, project management, and service management.
The School of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management is envisioned to be an international centre of learning in Industrial Engineering with a reputation for excellence in education, continuous learning, and all areas of professional practice and research. It will take leadership in molding learners to become technically, economically, and managerially capable of pursuing their chosen profession in a humane and ethical manner.
The general objective of the School of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management (IE-EMG) is to prepare students for a career in the field of Industrial Engineering and Service Engineering and Management. Graduates of the curriculum must have specialized knowledge and skills in the mathematical, physical, social, and basic engineering sciences together with the professional courses in IE, EMG and SEM.
A graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Service Engineering and Management (BS SEM) program:
Must have the fundamental and advanced knowledge, tools, and methods in decision-making, policies formulation, organizational development, and problem-solving associated with information intensive and technology-based industries and economies
Is adept with both technical engineering education and a core set of business and management mindset
Must be able to perform services in the form of consultation, design, preparation of plans, specifications, estimates, implementation, and supervision in the areas of: business process outsourcing, facilities and property management, and supply, logistics, and transportation management.
Must be prepared to create, build, improve, and install industrial systems which are different, effective, and robust
Is expected to be environmentally conscious
Must be knowledgeable of professional responsibilities to ethics and laws
Must be a total engineer utilizing knowledge in arts, sciences, and engineering
Must be prepared for the conduct of research or capstone project in at least one area in the field of SEM
Programme Educational Objectives:
Within the five years after graduation, the graduates of Industrial Engineering/Service Engineering and Management program shall have:
Undertaken, singly or in teams, projects that show ability to solve complex engineering problems
Had substantial involvement in projects that take into consideration safety, health, environmental concerns and the public welfare, partly through adherence to required codes and laws
Demonstrated professional success via promotions and/or positions of increasing responsibility.
Demonstrated life-long learning via progress toward completion of an advanced degree, professional development/continuing education courses, or industrial training courses
