The Department of Art and Design offers a BA and a BFA degree. It provides a creative environment for academic excellence in the areas of drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, graphic design, and photography. The curriculum offers a strong foundation in the creation, history, and theory of the visual arts and design, preparing students for professional careers and graduate studies.

As an Art and Design student, with an emphasis in Graphic Design, you will study the basics of design, from art theory and art history to hands-on computer studio courses. You will build your digital and traditional portfolios with design projects from courses using industry-standard design applications. The graphic design emphasis at Lindenwood University covers several areas in design: print and publication, advertising, typography and illustration, web design, user experience, and motion design. The Art and Design (BFA) with emphasis in Graphic Design is offered in both traditional and online formats.

Getting a degree in Web and User Experience prepares students for a creative career of their choosing. The diverse course offering allows students to pave their own path towards a career in design, whether it be artistic or technical. By the time they graduate, these students have a varied, in-demand skill set. The Art and Design (BFA) with emphasis in Web and User Experience is offered in both traditional and online formats.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) degree consists of Art History and Aesthetics requirement of 15 hours, core studio requirements of 26 hours, and a choice of emphasis in one of the following: Animation, Graphic Design, Two Dimensional Studio, and Three Dimensional Studio. Each of the emphases areas is 35 hours. The total art program is 76 hours.

The Bachelors of Art with a major in Art and Design program is appropriate for students interested in a general art degree. This degree also serves as the foundation of our department’s other degree offerings of the B.F.A. and B.A. in Art Education. Students will develop fundamental technical skills in 2D and 3D art media to successfully express ideas and develop an artistic awareness through visual expression. Students who pursue a B.A. degree commonly explore advanced general education study in such areas as anthropology, English, languages, and psychology towards future graduate degrees in art history, art management, and art therapy.
