BA Programmes in Social Sciences Social Work Counselling
A Bachelor of Arts, or BA, is a three- to five-year college degree that develops students’ expertise in a chosen major field of study and provides a broad base of knowledge in the humanities. This degree may improve graduates’ job prospects or serve as a stepping-stone toward further study in more advanced degree programs.
What is a BA in Counselling? This degree often takes different forms depending upon the student’s individual interest and the focus of the program chosen. Participants can take a more generalized course of study in this concentration, or narrow their emphasis to a particular area of interest, such as theology and counselling or the counselling of those with a certain disorder. A BA in Counselling usually consists of a combination of theoretical courses in topics such as psychology and human behavior as well as guided practical experience or field work.
Through their study in this program, students develop listening and critical judgment skills as well as the ability to assess and create a plan to meet others’ needs. They may also gain an understanding of healthy human interactions and communication skills. Depending upon their program, they may also learn the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of psychological disorders. These skills can help graduates find a desirable job.
The cost of obtaining a BA in Counselling is determined by the program the student chooses. Prospective students should keep their budget constraints in mind when selecting the program that is right for them.
A bachelor’s degree in counselling may lead directly into a career or serve as a foundation for those who wish to engage in further study in advanced degree programs. Those who hold this degree might engage in professional practice and provide personal, religious, relationship, or career counselling as well as various types of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Others sometimes go on to more advanced degrees that increase their professional qualifications; for example, it might be necessary for a professional therapist to hold an advanced degree in order to prescribe medications for the treatment of psychiatric disorders.
If you are interested in a career that is focused on helping others work through and resolve personal or mental health issues, this degree may be right for you. Classes are offered on campus and online, which makes it easy to find an option that fits your needs.
