Gain a comprehensive understanding of the modern Middle East. AUC’s Bachelor of Arts in Middle East studies is a multidisciplinary program that draws on a broad range of course offerings provided by different academic units and centers from across the University, including anthropology, Arabic studies, economics, history, political science, and sociology. Studying this critical region at AUC gives our students the advantage of being in Cairo.

AUC’s Arabic Language Intensive Program (ALIN) offers intensive Arabic-language courses that meet for 20 to 25 contact hours per week, offering 12 to 15 transferable credit hours for international students. ALIN offers courses at the elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels and infuses its curriculum with content-based courses in both Modern Standard Arabic and Egyptian Colloquial Arabic.

The modern educational system derived its students from Quran schools and Al-Azhar at its emergence, as there were committees that roam the country to visit Quran schools and select distinctive students to join modern schools, distinctive students of Al-Azhar were also selected to join high schools at their establishment, but rather some were lucky to join the mission dispatched by Mohammed to study in France.

Program Description: Learn all about ancient Egypt's history and culture, from the time of the Pharaohs to the Arab conquest — a time span of some 4,600 years. AUC’s Bachelor of Arts in Egyptology covers all aspects of ancient Egyptian civilization, from language and religion to art, architecture, social structure, and heritage management. The program also provides a first-hand experience of ancient monuments and sites.
