The purpose of the BA in Public Management and Governance is to provide qualifying students with substantive, theoretical, and intellectual knowledge, cognitive and research skills such as critical reasoning, data mining, and processing, problem-solving, interpretation, analytical and evaluative skills; communication skills and a normative basis in line with internationally accepted dimensions of “good governance”.

A degree in Media, Culture and Communication will entail facing the challenge of keeping pace with the latest trends, technologies, and debates. Media, Culture, and communication degrees aim to prepare students for work in media-related industries, and train them to critically analyze the ways in which the media reflects, represents, and influences the world.

Strategic Communication Honours facilitate both theoretical and applied competence in strategic communication. Specialized knowledge of strategic communication theory facilitates the ability to critically review, consolidate and extend strategic communication theory to create appropriate responses and to resolve abstract contextual strategic communication problems.

In this course, we work with the Latin language, literature, artifacts, philosophy, history, and religion. Not only do students develop their own analytical skills by participating in this course; but they also understand the ways in which we as human beings give meaning to our existence through the use of symbols and complexes of symbols that come to us from ancient times.

Full-time students register for five modules. Part-time students register for all the modules except for the specialization modules and the research essay in the first year. In the second year, part-time students register for the specialization modules and the research essay. All elective modules are not necessarily offered every year.

The course aims to supply a fairly detailed study of the contribution of our classical heritage to Western civilization.

The Bachelor of Arts Honors (Visual Art) prepares students for research-based postgraduate study and entry into the diverse careers in the visual industries, by enabling students to produce creative solutions to complex problems within a specialist area of studio practice; exhibit this work professionally and conduct and report their research under supervision. This is a one-year full-time or two years part-time honors program with both a studio practice stream and a purely theoretical stream, when it is made available.

The purpose of the Bachelor of Arts Honours in Interior Design prepares students for research-based postgraduate study and entry into a design career by enabling students to produce creative solutions to complex problems within a specialist area of design and to conduct and report on research under supervision.

The Department offers a rigorous history honors program, with five modules and a regular seminar that brings in historians to present their work from all over South Africa and from overseas. All students who register for a BA Honours in History are required to complete core courses and write an honors research essay based on original research. Full-time students complete the program in one year, while those registered part-time have two years to complete the degree.

The Bachelor of Arts Honors in Design (Graphic Design) prepares students for research-based postgraduate study and entry into a design career by enabling students to produce creative solutions to complex problems within a specialist area of design and to conduct and report research under supervision.

The aim of this programme is to educate students in the theory and practice of psychology and counseling, with a focus on personal development, family studies and broader mental health interventions. The programme helps students develop an integrated and relevant counseling praxis within the South African context. It also prepares students for further studies in psychology and trains them in foundational social research skills. During their first year, the students will also take the foundational set of modules, referred to as the ‘Cornerstone Core’. These include History, Sociology, Ethics, Philosophy, Economics and Leadership Studies. These modules are embedded in Cornerstone’s core values of inclusivity, excellence, integrity, unity, respect and creativity.

This qualification helps students gain an in-depth understanding of sociological theories. The student would be able to analyse and evaluate these theories with reference to issues such as poverty, globalisation, conflict, the environment and gender, with a special focus on South Africa and the African continent. The qualification also provides the students with practical community, cross-cultural and social research skills.

The aim of this programme is to equip students with a Christian, interdisciplinary approach to engaging real-world crises and opportunities. With an emphasis on skillful biblical interpretation and theological understanding, students engage a broad set of contextual issues facing South Africa today and develop an integrative response (drawing from psychological, theological and sociological perspectives). A sense of personal vocation is therefore nurtured, with an emphasis on practical application.
