The major is designed for students who are interested in pursuing a career in theater, but who are not interested in performing. Students can choose to concentrate on one or more of the following areas: Scenery, Costumes, Lighting, Sound, and Technical Direction.

The Siena Heights Spanish program doesn’t want its students to just “learn” Spanish; students will be able to speak it. In fact, students will start speaking Spanish on their very first day of class. The program features a “flipped” classroom format, meaning the grammar is no longer taught in the classroom but as an online lecture.

The Social Studies Education program is designed to parallel Social Science and History with special emphasis on teaching techniques needed by candidates for Education Certification at the elementary and secondary levels.

History and Social Science students at Siena Heights experience a variety of classroom and extracurricular learning opportunities. Class size is typically 15-20 students, enabling students to develop effective discussion skills. Students learn from video and web-based presentations as well as instructor lectures, classroom activities, and other learning adventures.

The Religious Studies Program at Siena Heights University challenges students to engage in the academic study of religion, construct an ethical worldview informed by faith, strengthen their understanding of God, and hone tools and skills for lifelong spiritual development.

The Siena Heights Psychology Program has consciously built into the program a three-pronged emphasis on Theory and Content, Research/Analytical, and Field Placement. We have a strong research component built to develop quantitative, and analytical skills. We believe very strongly there's a lot of benefit to that quantitative analytical emphasis just beyond the research side of things.

The Philosophy Department is committed to teaching students how to think critically, reason carefully, and act knowingly. We believe that a strong philosophical foundation is essential to a life well-lived and crucial to a liberal arts education.

Our faculty consists of teachers/musicians who have practical, relevant experience in music education from pre-kindergarten to post-graduate. As lifelong learners, our professors and instructors seek to instill a passion for not only making music but teaching it as well. Education permeates every aspect of music instruction at SHU, and Music students graduate with the necessary skills to become not only effective teachers but also leaders in their field.

Students majoring in Music Education will be able to complete their degree in four years. Very few programs are able to offer that. Here at Siena Heights, we have a small, flexible program that is able to do it. With a theme of “Committed to Excellence,” the SHU Music Department wants its students to receive the background and experience to teach in a variety of fields, including instrumental and chorale.

The Bachelor’s Degree in Multidisciplinary Studies is an excellent degree for those who have academic credentials in a variety of disciplines. Candidates for this program ordinarily are not on track for a traditional major and often have a significant career path established.

Dr Christie Boxer leads the Sociology program, which includes core courses that expose you to the scientific study of human society and develop your “sociological imagination,” and elective courses, such as Marriage & Family, Sex & Gender, and Race & Ethnicity, through which you will learn to understand and apply sociological concepts to the world outside of the classroom.
