Human Biology is the integrated study of human anatomy and physiology, including the study of the body in health and disease. It covers a wide range of topics, ranging from genetics, microbiology, and immunology to the core disciplines of anatomy, microanatomy, and physiology.

This broad-based major prepares students for graduate programs in disciplines related to human medicine or research. The Integrative Human Biology major provides an interdisciplinary understanding of human health and disease from biological, psychological, societal, and developmental perspectives.

Human Development (HDEV) is one of two undergraduate majors in the College of Community and Public Affairs. HDEV allows students to explore individual, social, and structural aspects of human development as a basis for understanding principles that benefit themselves and others by achieving a solid foundation in the theories and research defining the field of human development and engaging in a critical exploration of social, cultural, economic, historical, and political frameworks and how individuals, families, and communities are situated within them developing the understanding and skills needed to enhance and promote diversity, equity, and social justice fostering a complex understanding of human conditions. 

Biological sciences form the basis of many new areas of science and technology. They are the foundation of our understanding of a diverse range of subjects – from evolution, genetics and diversity to medicine, drug and human development.

Neuroscience represents a relatively new but rapidly expanding area of study that brings together a variety of disciplines to explore the development, structure, functional activities and behavioral consequences of the nervous system. The neuroscience major emphasizes a collaborative multidisciplinary approach to understanding the intricate neural mechanisms underlying human and animal behavior. You will experience a diverse, yet integrated education focused on the relationship between biology and behavior from the introductory to advanced courses of study.

The human biology major will provide students with a broad biological understanding of our species, from molecules, genes, and cells to tissues, organ systems and organism/environment interactions. The curriculum includes classes on the basic principles that help us understand normal human physiology, human health, and the molecular basis of disease.
