Whether your goal is to enter the music profession or just to actively pursue your passion for music during college, Lakeland's music program offers broad opportunities for growth and performance. We also value students who may not be majoring in music but want to enrich their college experience by participating in music groups, taking private lessons, or learning a new instrument. Our musical ensembles are open to all students regardless of major. Some require placement auditions in order to best utilize the talents of each student.

Play. Sing. Conduct. Teach. Because it takes the most accomplished musicians to make the most inspiring music, our program prepares you for a career of distinction and leadership in the classroom. You’ll benefit from the expertise of our music and education faculty in this program, which is jointly administered by the two departments. You’ll receive extensive training in performance, conducting, and analysis and you’ll have opportunities to direct university ensembles. You’ll also develop the skills needed to succeed as a teacher and spend a semester student teaching to hone your abilities as a classroom leader.

Students have the option to choose between a performance path or a music teaching path. The performance path is designed for students who wish to pursue a career as a professional musician, performing in orchestras, bands, and other ensembles. The music teaching path, on the other hand, is geared towards students who wish to become music educators, teaching in schools or private lessons.

The program gives you the chance to become a multi-talent in music education. You will learn to master different musical styles on several instruments, lead choirs and bands, and arrange material for various kinds of ensembles. You will utilize existing research in your teaching as well as in evaluation and development work. Our program allows you to build networks with prospective employers already during your studies.

The BA in Music Education provides a variety of experiences that prepare talented individuals to meet the challenges of teaching K-12 choral, instrumental and general music in the 21st Century.

University study program Music Education with a focus on education prepares students in the theoretical and practical specialization of music pedagogy and provides basic knowledge for a job in education. The study combines three components of Middle school / Junior High school / Secondary school / High school / Junior High school / Senior High school teacher training: subject training, general and subject training didactics, and teacher propaedeutics (pedagogical-psychological training). The obligatory basis of the study consists of music-theoretical components of education: music theory, harmony, counterpoint, musical forms, organology, history of music, etc. Improving musical skills is provided by vocal and instrumental preparation, intonation and auditory analysis, choral conducting. Everything is focused on the work of a lecturer, assistant teacher, educator, cultural assistant, etc. The next part is the didactics of music education, listening, and assistant practice at school. These activities prepare the graduate for the next level of study - a master's degree in music education. The study program in the major plan respects the balance of subject, didactic and pedagogical-psychological components according to the standards of teacher training of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic. Pedagogical-psychological preparation includes subjects of pedagogy, psychology, and special pedagogy, including pedagogical-psychological practice and aims to prepare for the subsequent master's study of teaching. A part of the study program major is a bachelor's thesis. This program is intended for graduates of a music conservatory, musical high schools, and musical basic schools who are not oriented for professional interpretation careers.

The music program is affiliated with the Division of Performing, Visual and Digital Media Arts at CSU Dominguez Hills.

The Bachelor of Science in music education prepares students with a passion for music to teach instrumental and vocal music to students in Tennessee in grades K-12. The music education program is connected to one of the most productive education schools in the state.

Students majoring in Music Education will be able to complete their degree in four years. Very few programs are able to offer that. Here at Siena Heights, we have a small, flexible program that is able to do it. With a theme of “Committed to Excellence,” the SHU Music Department wants its students to receive the background and experience to teach in a variety of fields, including instrumental and chorale.

The NSU music department will help you grow as a musician while preparing you to excel in your dream career as a music teacher. As an NSU music major, you can learn to: Teach music to K-12 students; Perform and create music; and Develop students’ understanding and appreciation of the art of music. The instrumental emphasis is for you if you’d like to teach K-12 instrumental music and supervise school music programs. You’ll be encouraged to take vocal courses to strengthen your musicianship.

Through the study and application of philosophy, method, and practice, music education students are prepared for a vocation in the public school music classroom. By means of intensive classroom and ensemble experience, the department of music education provides students with skills necessary for professional competency.

The program is designed to take 4 years to complete. Of those that completed the program in 2012-2013, 63% finished in 4 years.

This degree programme prepares students for careers in music teaching at the secondary level.

Learn to teach vocal or instrumental music to children in grades K–12 in public or private school settings. Entrance auditions are required for this major. Auditions are during the spring semester.
