Bachelor Programmes in Malawi 2025

The aim of the B.Ed. in Primary Education is to train new teachers to a high standard so that they may in turn teach their pupils to a high standard and positively contribute to their school and communities. The aim is further to train new teachers in such large numbers that they make a significant impact on meeting the targets of access and quality of Primary Education outlined in MIP-1 (National Planning Commission, 2021b) and NESIP (Government of Malawi, 2020).

The aim of the B.Ed. in Primary Education is to upgrade existing teachers to a high standard so that they may in turn teach their pupils to a high standard and positively contribute to their school and communities. The aim is further to train existing teachers in such large numbers that they make a significant impact on meeting the targets of access and quality of Primary Education outlined in MIP-1 (National Planning Commission, 2021b) and NESIP (Government of Malawi, 2020).

The programme is an online programme composed of 20 modules that may be taken on a full-time basis or a part-time basis, depending on the circumstances and needs of the student. Each module lasts seven weeks and the material is available online 24 hours per day, seven days per week during that period. The student may opt to supplement the online programme during this period with face-to-face tutorials in a blended approach.

The BSc Supply Chain Management and Logistics offers its students expertise in all aspects of supply chain management and enables them to specialise in a number of methods and techniques regarding the theoretical as well as the technical part of the industry. Students are able to study in-depth all significant areas in supply chain management and develop the required understanding in order to be successful in this sector.

The BA in Economics and Business offers its students expertise in Business and Economics. It provides them with an ability to demonstrate knowledge of business processes. It allows them to assess industry attractiveness and identify risks and opportunities of doing business in a global environment by choosing and applying appropriate methodologies. It prepares students for careers in business and finance, but can also be relevant for Government and non-Governmental Organisations. In particular, graduates will be able to apply economic analyses within a business context.

Upon completion of this programme, students should be able to manage issues related to an organisational environment and apply conceptual principles, methods and tools to solve financial problems; identify the increasingly complex nature of the local and global economy and its impact on finance, among others.

A Bachelor of Science in Accounting provides an understanding of perspectives that form the context for business and financial management. The BSc Accounting is a rigorous programme that prepares students for professional accountancy roles and business and public sector management roles. It will equip students with a strong accounting foundation and the necessary accounting skills, as well as teaching the theory and logic behind the use of specific accounting techniques and accounting decision-making. Students are expected to think analytically and to critically evaluate key issues in accounting from a variety of perspectives. They are also expected to apply analytical accounting approaches.

With the world being driven by computers, a degree in Computer Science is vital. Areas like computing and information technology, security, database and web development will be explored. The degree will provide students with both theoretical and practical computer science knowledge and skills thus enabling them to work in the industrial, banking, commercial and government sector.
