Psychology is the science of human emotion, thought, and behavior, including neural, physiological, and cognitive processes; developmental factors and individual differences; and interpersonal, international, and cross-cultural components. The Psychology major is designed to expose students to a spectrum of basic issues currently being addressed in the discipline, the principles of research design and statistics, and theory and research in specific areas of psychology.

This BA (Honours) in Social Sciences (Geography) is one of several specialist routes available in our BA (Honours) Social Sciences (R23) degree. Earth Science is an all-embracing term for the multiple sciences related to the planet Earth. The B.A. degree in Geology with a major in Earth Science is designed to integrate all the Earth sciences in a systems approach to understanding the Earth. This includes incorporating and integrating subjects such as oceanography, meteorology and astronomy. The emphasis is on the preparation of individuals to work in a wide range of professional public sector service careers where preparation in Earth science and communication of science to non-scientific audiences is a requirement or an asset. This includes the preparation of Earth science teachers.

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) programme consists of 24 courses, of which 8 courses are at 100-level, 8 courses are at 200-level, and 8 courses are at 300-level, including 2 x 100-level university courses and 2 x 200-level university courses. Students who enroll in the three-year BA degree programme may take Mathematics as a single major, a double major, or a minor.

Geography is a discipline that integrates the environmental and social sciences. Geography studies location, places, regions, human-environment interactions, and movement. Its tools include cartography and geographic information systems (GIS). On the job, Geography graduates address social, physical, and environmental problems from the global to the local scale.

As a student in the Thiel College Education Department, students will experience high-quality education programs based on the latest “Effective Schools” research that includes instructional teaching strategies based on the work of Robert Marzano, Jay McTighe, Grant Wiggins, Charlotte Danielson, and other current leaders in the field of education. Help students learn about compounds, elements, molecules, atoms, ions, and chemical reactions. Lead them in laboratory experiments that teach them the importance of the scientific method. Skills include decision-making, innovative thinking, listening, and oral and written communication.

West Liberty University offers the Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education that prepares teacher candidates for content specific certification from grades 5-Adult in English, Math, General Science, Biology, and Social Studies. BA in mathematics education (5-adult) contains required mini-residency field components within the required 30 hours minimum.
