Florida Poly is the nation’s leading institution of change, engineered from the ground up to push the boundaries of education in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

History

Florida Polytechnic University was created by the state in 2012 as its first and only all-STEM public university. The University’s goal: provide an excellent STEM-focused education preparing high-ability students to meet the mounting statewide demand for the high-skill professionals the industry needs to succeed and continue innovating.

In April 2014, Dr. Randy K. Avent was selected by the Florida Polytechnic University Board of Trustees to be the University’s first president. Then, in August 2014, Florida Poly officially welcomed its inaugural class of 554 students which included 394 freshmen, 134 transfer students, and 26 graduate students. Ninety-seven percent of the students were Florida residents.

The building also provides study areas for students and a small amount of administrative space.

The white-domed IST Building is a moveable and functional work of art. It features a distinctive louvered roof system that can move with the sun providing passive lighting inside the second-floor atrium.

The Student Development Center is an 8,600-square-foot building that opened in February 2018. The shape of the building was designed to mimic the look of the university’s mascot, a phoenix.

We had this crazy idea to start a company. We’re going to a technology school and we want to change the world, so why not be able to put all of that under a company and just make it happen?

    Andre Ripley

The single best thing I’ve done was getting involved with the entrepreneurship program at Florida Poly because you don’t even need to have the best idea or be completely thought through, you just have to try and get feedback. Even when I’ve failed it’s like I’ve won because I got crucial feedback and I implemented it into the Facebook deal.

My education and my career now would not be even close to what they are had I studied somewhere else. It was great to have professors readily available to help you and encourage you, and being able to rely on your fellow students in your degree from day one until we were seniors.

Florida Poly is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and ABET, the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology.
