Located halfway between Dallas and Houston – students can occasionally take advantage of big-city life and amenities while living in a safe, rural environment with a supportive local community. We offer undergraduate (83 majors) and graduate programs (40 Masters and 4 PhD level). We strive to give our students personal attention both inside and outside the classroom. Extensive new facilities give students up-to-date classrooms and labs, recreation and living areas, and entertainment options. We hope we can be a home away from home for our international students.

Scholarships are financial aid that doesn’t have to be repaid.

Some are based on financial need, but scholarships also can be based on accomplishments, such as:

  • Academic merit
  • Athletic ability
  • Leadership
  • Extracurricular activities
  • Service
  • Or even winning an essay contest.

What is a scholarship?

Like grants, scholarships are financial aid that doesn’t have to be repaid. Some are based on financial need, but scholarships also can be based on accomplishments, such as academic merit, athletic ability, leadership, extracurricular activities, service or even winning an essay contest. SFA scholarships are limited by available funding. Scholarship selection committees will review candidates and choose a limited number of recipients, as funding allows.

Scholarship providers run the gamut, from SFA to businesses, foundations, religious organizations, nonprofits and community groups. That means there are hundreds of opportunities available for you to get scholarship funding to help you with your SFA expenses.

Scholarships provided by SFA

SFA offers several scholarships regardless of major. Explore the options below and search the scholarship portal for opportunities specific to your interest, college and major!

  • Academic Excellence Scholarship

Outside scholarship resources

It’s worth your time to look for scholarship opportunities from other sources, too. You can do an online search, “Scholarships for ___” and fill in the blank: leaders, volunteers, children of veterans — you name it. You also can try sites that list scholarship opportunities.

The SFA Alumni Association welcomes you to visit the on-campus office and to participate in activities that engage current students, alumni and friends of SFA. Along with the university, the association publishes the “Sawdust” magazine, serves as a sponsor for SFA’s annual homecoming weekend and presents annual awards to an outstanding faculty member and outstanding alumni. SFA students can join Tomorrow’s Alumni Generation (TAG) to get a great start in networking and building lifelong alumni relationships filled with Lumberjack spirit and pride.
