Introduction
OKWU’s Bachelor of Arts in Writing and Editing is designed to produce creative, detail-oriented, and critical thinkers who are capable of communicating truthfully, clearly, and winsomely through the written word. The program consists of 36 credit hours – a 27-hour core curriculum and nine elective credits that involve writing in various disciplines, such as ministry, marketing, and journalism. Students complete an internship or portfolio toward the end of the program to gain practical skills and connections in their chosen field.
OKWU’s Writing and Editing curriculum is not only focused on giving students a technical mastery of their craft, but of integrating faith into the discipline of writing. Graduates of the program are prepared to approach their careers with the attitude of Christ, effectively taking their faith into the culture through communication.
In addition to high-level academic instruction, the major features numerous extra-curricular activities for students to get involved in. Most Friday nights during the school year, English students gather together to share their creative writing. During the week, many English majors work diligently to edit The Eagle, OKWU’s student-run digital magazine.
