Introduction
Bachelor of Science in Social Science
The Department endeavors to develop the following qualities in our students as they relate to the college’s mission and objectives: Our students will develop an understanding of how past events, ideas, and people can have a lasting legacy on current and future courses of history, as well as to develop their capacity to logically express those thoughts through effective communication skills. Our students will develop a penchant for seeking discovery of new information and the application of past knowledge in a manner that improves current and future society, whether it is through conventional means or through new forms of computer and information literacy. Our students will cultivate the ability of independent inquiry and critical thinking skills with regards to events of the past, current, and future times, particularly cognizant of the need for the intellectual capacity for change. Our students will establish a pattern of civic involvement based upon historical, cultural, social, economic, and political studies of previous and contemporary societies. The department will continue to provide educational events/opportunities in the Social Sciences for not only its current students but also for the general communities of Southeast Nebraska, the state of Nebraska, the United States, as well as our global community.
