Introduction
Concerning climate change, today’s expectations of building performance, social justice, health and well-being, indoor environment quality, and biodiversity are changing. Designed to transform and propel building science education to meet 21st-century challenges, Rensselaer’s Building Sciences program offers a comprehensive curriculum comprised of integrated design, history/theory, technology and data literacy courses as a preparation for graduates to become leaders in the rapidly changing field.
The four-year undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Building Sciences program seeks applicants who thrive at the intersections of design and science, and are driven by a life-long commitment to generative citizenship. The design methodology embedded in the Building Sciences studios is oriented around unique interdisciplinary design pedagogies including investigative learning, data storytelling, co-design, iterative mapping, material testing and prototyping, that frame and drive the design project.
Leveraging the new-age polytechnic’s long and substantial history of applied sciences and engineering, as well as its relationship to renowned graduate programs within the School of Architecture, the Building Sciences program nurtures and supports the development of knowledge in key areas of individualized concentrations from within one of the following schools/programs:
