Introduction

Architectural Technology and Construction Management is a 3½-year Bachelor's Programme.

In the conception, design, and construction of building projects, the architect mainly works with aesthetics, the engineer with physics, a graduate in Architectural Technology and Construction Management is a generalist who deals with aspects of these and the organizational side of things.

During the program, you will learn to solve technical, administrative, and documentation assignments - in both theory and practice.

Computers are frequently used throughout the degree program. However, computer skills are not a requirement before applying. We will teach you everything you need to know during classes, where you will also receive your computer in the classroom. This is all done to guarantee that our graduates have excellent skills in using up to date computer technology in their work.

Most of the teaching takes place in class with your classmates, but occasionally there will be lectures together with other classes.

Students come to the Architectural Technology and Construction Management program with a variety of backgrounds. During the program, you will find that your fellow students are familiar with the field either through books and theory or through experiences as craftsmen. This mixture of student backgrounds helps create robust and dynamic working groups. In such working groups, a more comprehensive array of resourceful competencies come to light, allowing students to help each other using their skills the best way possible.

As a student at UCL University College, it is also possible to create an international profile during your studies. Depending on your chosen program, you can go on short international modules, study a semester, do your internship abroad, and participate in international projects.

All students in the program have to get practical experience during their studies. The internship is meant to help turn your career in the direction you prefer, e.g., primarily drawing and sketching or mainly managing the activities at a building site.

You are taught to be a generalist within the fields of architectural technology, construction management, building surveying, and facilities management:

Projection/planning: You are responsible for the practical and technical planning regarding the choice of materials and constructions in a project.

Project management: You have a general knowledge of all parts of the building project - from the initial rough design to the completed building. You are aware of the legislation and how to accomplish the project within the known budgets and time limits.

Structural construction: You will be able to analyze the requirements concerning each individual construction element.

Coordination and planning: You will coordinate and plan the structural project in cooperation with other involved parties, such as architects, engineers, and public authorities.

Communication: You will be able to communicate with both architects at the drawing office and the craftsmen and contractors at the building site – you are the link between idea and action!

You will have the qualifications to work within the contracting business, in an architect's drawing offices, consulting engineering companies, or within a public authority or body. International organizations are gradually using constructing architects as well. Alternatively, you also hold the option of starting your own business.
