Introduction

Sustainable regional management deals with the valorisation of rural areas. In times of increasing urbanization, this is of great social and economic importance. In addition to its function as a supplier of raw materials and food, the rural area also serves as a living and recreation area and offers areas for large protected areas.

From the point of view of sustainability, economic as well as ecological and social aspects are considered and deepened using the topics of regional economy, nature conservation and tourism. This involves, for example, the consideration of conflicts of use between those seeking relaxation and sensitive protected areas or the special requirements for the marketing of regional products.

The aim of the Sustainable Regional Management course is to train qualified graduates who recognize the social, ecological and economic potential of rural areas and initiate promising developments. They should be able to give competent advice to regional decision-makers, to recognize possible conflicts at an early stage and to set accents for innovative value creation potential in rural areas.
